Bishop T.D. Jakes Officially Hands Over The Potter’s House Leadership

In a profound and emotional moment that marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new one, Bishop T.D. Jakes has officially handed over the leadership of The Potter’s House, the globally influential megachurch he founded in 1996. This historic announcement was made during a moving Sunday service on April 27, 2025, in Dallas, Texas.

Bishop Jakes announced that his daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and her husband, Touré Roberts, will now take up the mantle as senior leaders of The Potter’s House. The transition, which had been in careful preparation for over six years, is both a continuation of legacy and a step into a fresh chapter for the ministry.

The handover was not sudden. In November 2024, Bishop Jakes experienced a major health scare—a heart attack during a sermon—which prompted deeper reflection about the future of the church. “I cannot afford, especially after November, to risk something happening to me and you be sheep without a shepherd,” Jakes said to the congregation.

Sarah and Touré Roberts have already been taking on significant leadership responsibilities and are well-known for their vibrant ministry work through ONE Church and Woman Evolve. Their appointment was met with standing ovations and heartfelt prayers from the congregation and global Christian community.

While stepping away from the day-to-day pastoral duties, Bishop T.D. Jakes will remain actively involved as the Chairman of the Board and spiritual overseer of The Potter’s House. He also plans to focus more on social impact through the T.D. Jakes Group, which oversees ventures in media, real estate, community development, and education.

This leadership shift reaffirms the church’s commitment to generational legacy, spiritual continuity, and relevant ministry in today’s world. As The Potter’s House enters this new season, it continues to be a powerful voice for transformation, both within the church and in the broader community.
